Our origin was a humble step of faith. Our story began in November 2004, when Rev. Kojo Amo who was then the General Secretary of the Ghana Baptist Convention, invited certain Ghanaian Baptist church leaders in the United States to a workshop in Chicago to explore the possibility of working with the existing Ghanaian Baptist Churches to plant some more in North America (Canada and USA).

The two-day workshop took place in November, from the 23th to the 24th, 2004. It was attended by four already existing churches and some other brethren who were not associated with any of the Ghanaian Baptist Churches. These churches were, Abundant Life Baptist, NY; Amazing Grace Baptist, Atlanta; All Nations Baptist Church Baptist, OH; and New Creation Baptist, MA.
Subsequent to the Chicago meeting, the first delegates’ conference for the Association occurred on April 22-23, 2005, in Columbus, Ohio. This delegates’ conference focused on the following: Leadership development; Immigrant Church Planting and Evangelism. The participants, through group works and plenary sessions, recommended the Mission and Vision statements for the Ghana Baptist Association of North America which name was later changed to North American Baptist Association of the Ghana Baptist Convention and hereafter abbreviated to NABA.

The second meeting of the Association was held in October 23-25, 2005, in Aurora, Colorado. It was at this gathering that they elected their first president, in the person of Rev. Akwasi Ofori, Pastor of Solid Rock Baptist Church, Aurora, Colorado. He led the Association to navigate through its formative stage till June 31, 2006. From there, the work fell under the chairmanship of Rev. Samuel Nana Opoku until July 8, 2012.

Since its inception to date, the Lord has remained faithful to the hard work, dedication and commitment of many men and women in the pursuit of the vision to plant churches in North America. Presently, we have fifteen churches across the U.S. and two in Canada; one more is to be planted in Baltimore, MD, hopefully by the close of this year. This is what the Lord has done from the humble beginning through the resolve of some few dedicated men and women.
